Background and Education:

Dr. Turner is a licensed Psychiatrist and Medical Practitioner in Ontario. He obtained his undergraduate Medical Degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1970 then completed 3 years of internship and residency training in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Anesthetics, OBGYN and Psychiatry in New Zealand before immigrating to Canada.

He then completed his Post-Graduate Specialist Training in Psychiatry at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, 1973-1977.  He moved to Burlington, Ontario, and obtained his Psychiatry Fellowship in November 1977. He has been on staff the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital since 1977 to the present, and has been on staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital 1993-2002 and April 2018 to the present. He was Associate Clinical Professor, McMaster University department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences in Hamilton, Ontario.

Current and Past Interests and Positions:

Joseph Brant Hospital:

Dr. Turner is Consulting Psychiatrist to the First Episode Psychosis Programs at the Psychiatric Outpatient Department, Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, since 2006, specializing in the early intervention and treatment of psychotic disorders.. He also is Consulting Psychiatrist for the Case Management Program and Medication Clinic Programs at Joseph Brant Hospital Psychiatric Outpatient Department since 1984,   which deals with the follow up of severely ill psychiatric clients with Schizophrenia and Mood Disorders. Dr. Turner also was Consulting Psychiatrist to the Psychiatric Day Program, the Inpatient Psychiatry Program, the Lithium Modecate Clinic, the Psychiatric Work Program and was past Chief of Psychiatric Services. He was a Consultant to the YEI Youth Early Intervention Program April 2018 to March 2019.

Oakville Trafalgar Hospital:

Dr. Turner is Consulting Psychiatrist to Halton Healthcare, North Halton Mental Health Clinics, Acton, Ontario, Case Management Program since 2006 to the present, specializing in the rehabilitation of schizophrenia and mood disorder clients, and Milton, Ontario, First Episode Psychosis Program specializing in the early intervention and treatment of psychotic disorders since May 2019 to the present. Dr. Turner also was past Consulting Psychiatrist to the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital Schizophrenia Clinic 1993-2002 and past Consulting Psychiatrist to the North Halton Mental Health Clinics, Georgetown, Ontario, Case Management Program 2017-2020.

Bethany Residential Program:

Dr. Turner is Founding and Consulting Psychiatrist to the Bethany Residential Treatment Center since 1990, a 125-bed facility, which provides residential care for severely ill psychiatric clients with Schizophrenia, Mood Disorders, Organic Brain Disorders, and some elderly clients.

Private Office Clinics and Mood Disorders Research Program:

Dr. Turner operated a general Private Psychiatry Clinic July 1977 to August 2017. In  2000-2017 Dr. Turner established the Depression, Mood Disorders and Schizophrenia Treatment and Research Center, Burlington, Ontario. This was an independent center, providing both innovative outpatient treatments and clinical research programs.  He also provided IME and Consulting services to Med Works, SOMA and Benchmark Rehabilitation Service.
